Cleveland St. Joseph High Class of 1970 - Latest News

10-27-2010 - Class of '70 Fortieth Reunion was Awesome!
40 years in the making…the St. Joe’s Class of ’70 Fortieth Reunion was an awesome experience.

Friday Night Guys night at the Purple Palace was a throw back evening. (Yes many a beer was thrown back.) Many a yarn was spun rekindling faded memories of high school triumphs and tragedies.

Members of the Glee Club sang the Alma Mater in 4 part harmony and 120 Vikings joined in creating a stirring moment and a lasting memory.

The Class of ’70 gift of $100,000 was presented to VASJ President Brian Menard. And as the clock struck 12 mid-night 30 or 40 Vikings didn’t want to go home…so they went to Skinny’s Tavern.

Saturday, date night at the Croation hall, we sobered up and acted like adults for the evening. Good food, great conversation and special guests like teachers Tim Robertson and Joe Radigan and members of our Homecoming court made for special evening.

All the Vikings gathered for a picture and sang, “When the Saints Go Marching In”.

It was a weekend worth the 40 year wait.

09-02-2010 - St. Joe’s Class of ’70, Nears Goal for Class Gift to VASJ: Raise Some GREEN for the RED and BLUE!

NEWS RELEASE, 9-03-10

The 40th Reunion Committee for the St. Joe’s Class of 1970 is closing in on its lofty goal of raising $100,000 for Villa Angela – Saint Joseph High School. To date over $92,000 has been pledged. Thus far matching grant money from the Scheidel Foundation has generated an additional $34,000. The Scheidel Foundation will continue to match all Class of ’70 pledges paid by June 30, 2012.

To date 32 classmates from ’70 have committed to the Class Gift fund raising drive; Raise Some GREEN for the RED and BLUE!

Don Dailey, who has led the fund raising effort said, “I hope all Class of ’70 Vikings will make a contribution to this drive. We’d like to have 100% participation from all the Vikings returning for our 40th reunion.”

Kevin Flynt, who has lead the Class of ’70 fortieth reunion team said, “I’m proud of all the guys from the Class of ’70 who have stepped up to make a commitment to the continuing mission of VASJ. These young Vikings are getting a great Catholic education, just like we did. And our fund raising efforts help make that great education more affordable.”

Alumni can designate their donation to support one of 3 areas; scholarships, athletics or the general fund.

Don Dailey also said, "Any size gift is much appreciated, and every dollar donated will be put to good use. It is important that all of the School's 16,000+ alums take responsibility for ensuring its future, so that our children, grandchildren and communities will continue to benefit from the bright, young leaders being formed everyday within the halls of VASJ."

06-11-2010 - St. Joe’s Class of ’70, Fortieth Reunion Makes Class Gift to VASJ: Raise some GREEN for the RED and BLUE!

NEWS RELEASE, 6-11-10

St. Joe’s Class of ’70, Fortieth Reunion Makes Class Gift to VASJ: Raise some GREEN for the RED and BLUE!

Leading the 40th Reunion Committee for the St. Joe’s Class of 1970, Kevin Flynt got the team to quickly nail down all the fun activities planned for the October 22-23 weekend.  He then shared with the group his really big idea.  Kevin asked the Reunion Committee to set a Class Gift goal of $100,000.

Kevin said, “Some of my ol’ classmates thought I was nuts, but I wanted us to set a lofty goal to help as many young VASJ students as possible to get a great Catholic education.“

Kevin went on to say, “Back in 1966, when I was a freshman, St. Joe’s tuition was $220 a year.

Now with inflation and increasing costs, tuition is $7,500.  To help some families with that is very rewarding.”

The Class of ‘70 Reunion Team is also targeting 100% participation for alums attending the reunion.  Don Dailey said, “Our hope is that every classmate makes a contribution at whatever amount they feel comfortable giving.”

The reunion committee gifts and other lead gifts have already reached $76,000.

What makes our class gift even more beneficial is a matching gift program being offered by The Scheidel Foundation.  For pledge commitments made before June 30th, 2010, The Scheidel Foundation is offering a dollar for dollar match.  So every dollar we, the Class of ’70, donate will be matched by the Scheidel Foundation.  Our $100,000 class donation immediately doubles and becomes $200,000 for VASJ.  The Scheidel Foundation honors the legacy of Herbert Scheidel, St. Joe ’60.

Alumni can designate their donation to support one of 3 areas; scholarships, athletics or the general fund.
